Privacy Policy
Last updated: Aug 2026 · Applies to Helpora Pvt. Ltd. and the Helpora platform.
Helpora Pvt. Ltd. operates a technology platform that connects neighbours for everyday tasks. We act as an intermediary under the Information Technology Act, 2000. Helpers are independent individuals who use the platform, and are not employees or agents of Helpora. This document applies to your use of the Helpora website and app, is governed by the laws of India, and the English version prevails wherever it is translated.
This policy explains what personal data Helpora Pvt. Ltd. collects, why we collect it, who we share it with, and the rights you have over it. We have tried to write it in plain English rather than legal shorthand.
1. Who we are
Helpora Pvt. Ltd. ("Helpora", "we", "us", "our"), which operates the Helpora platform, is the data fiduciary responsible for the personal data described in this policy.

2. What we collect
| Category | What it includes | Why we need it |
|---|---|---|
| Account data | Name, phone number, email address, profile photo, home area or society, preferred language. | To create and secure your account, show who you are to the neighbour you are dealing with, and contact you about your tasks. |
| Identity and KYC data | The result of Aadhaar-based verification carried out by an authorised partner, a masked reference where permitted, and the live selfie / liveness image used for the match. | To confirm you are a real, identifiable person before you can accept tasks or let someone into your home. Safety and fraud prevention. |
| Location data | Precise device location while you are posting a task, travelling to a task or performing one; the task address you enter. | To show tasks near you, let a poster track an accepted helper's approach, and confirm the task happened where it was meant to. |
| Task content | Task titles, descriptions, categories, photos, timings and completion notes. | To publish your task to nearby helpers, run the task, and resolve disputes if they arise. |
| Chat messages | One-to-one messages and images exchanged inside the app about a task. | To let both sides coordinate without sharing phone numbers, and to review evidence in a dispute or safety report. |
| Task records | Task and support records needed to operate the service. Sensitive transaction credentials are handled by authorised partners and are not stored by us. | To operate tasks, provide support, prevent misuse and meet legal obligations. |
| Device and usage data | Device model, operating system, app version, IP address, crash logs, and how you use the app. | To keep the service working, detect fraud and abuse, and fix problems. |
| Support correspondence | Emails, calls, chat with support, complaints and dispute submissions. | To resolve your issue and keep a record of what was decided and why. |
3. Why we collect each item
Every category above maps to one or more of these purposes, and nothing beyond them:
- Verification: confirming that a person is real and identifiable before they can accept a task.
- Safety: arrival codes, live tracking, emergency features, gate passes and investigating reports.
- Matching: showing your task to suitable helpers nearby, and showing helpers relevant tasks.
- Task operations: supporting task completion and requests for help.
- Fraud prevention: detecting fake profiles, platform abuse and attempts to take work off the platform.
- Support and disputes: answering your questions and deciding disputes fairly.
- Legal obligations: legal, accounting, and lawful requests from authorities.
4. Legal basis and consent
We process personal data under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (DPDP Act) and the Information Technology Act, 2000, read with the Information Technology (Reasonable Security Practices and Procedures and Sensitive Personal Data or Information) Rules, 2011.
We rely on your consent, taken at the point of collection: when you create an account, when you start identity verification, when you allow location access, and when you tick a marketing consent box. Where the law allows processing for certain legitimate uses (for example, complying with a legal obligation or responding to an emergency), we rely on that.
You may withdraw consent at any time, in the app or by writing to contact@helpora.app. Withdrawing consent for something essential (identity verification, for instance) means we can no longer let you accept tasks, and may mean closing your account. Withdrawal does not affect processing already carried out.
6. Aadhaar and KYC handling
Identity verification is performed through an authorised verification partner. We do not store full Aadhaar numbers, and we do not use Aadhaar data for any purpose other than confirming that you are who you say you are.
What we retain is limited to:
- the verification status (verified or not verified) and the date of verification;
- a masked reference where retention is permitted, so we can re-check a record if required;
- the name and date of birth returned by the verification, to match against your profile;
- the liveness/selfie image used for the match, retained for safety and fraud investigation.
We do not display your identity documents to other users. Neighbours only see that you are verified, not the underlying data.
7. Location data
Precise location is collected only when a task is active (while you post a task, browse tasks near you, travel to a task, or perform one), or when you deliberately turn on location sharing with a trusted contact.
Once a task is accepted, the poster can see the helper's approximate live position and ETA until the task ends. The helper sees the task address. Nobody else sees either.
You can turn off location permission in your device settings at any time. Some features (seeing tasks near you, live tracking) will not work without it.
8. Communications and messaging consent
Transactional messages. When you use Helpora, we send messages you need to receive: task accepted, helper on the way, your arrival code, task completed, security alerts and support replies. These may arrive by SMS, WhatsApp, email or push notification. They are part of the service and cannot be switched off entirely while you have an active task, though you can change the channel in your notification settings.
Promotional messages. Offers, product news and launch updates are sent only if you have explicitly opted in: at signup, or through the launch-updates field on this website, where the consent line is shown next to the field.
How to opt out. Reply STOP on WhatsApp; use the unsubscribe link at the bottom of any marketing email; change your in-app notification settings; or write to contact@helpora.app and we will action it.
We follow WhatsApp's Business Messaging Policy. We do not send unsolicited messages, we do not buy contact lists, and we do not share your number with third-party marketers.
9. How long we keep data
- Account data: while your account is active, and for a reasonable period after closure to handle disputes and legal claims.
- Verification records: for as long as your account is active, and thereafter only where retention is legally required or needed for a safety investigation.
- Task and chat records: retained for the dispute and safety window, and in aggregate afterwards.
- Task and legal records: retained for the period required under Indian financial, accounting and legal law, which is generally longer than other categories.
- Location traces: kept only for the short period needed to complete and verify a task, and for safety investigations.
Exact retention periods: [RETENTION PERIODS: OWNER TO CONFIRM WITH COUNSEL].
10. Security
Data is encrypted in transit. Access inside Helpora Pvt. Ltd. is restricted to the people who need it to do their job, and access to sensitive records is logged. We check that the partners we work with (verification, hosting, transaction and messaging providers) maintain appropriate security standards.
No system is perfectly secure, and we will not claim otherwise. If a breach affects your data, we will notify you and the Data Protection Board of India as the law requires.
11. Your rights
Under the DPDP Act you have the right to:
- Access a summary of the personal data we hold about you and how it is processed.
- Correct and complete data that is wrong or out of date.
- Erase data we no longer need for the purpose it was collected for, or where you withdraw consent.
- Nominate another person to exercise your rights if you die or become incapacitated.
- Grievance redressal: a proper answer from us before you approach the Data Protection Board.
- Withdraw consent at any time.
To exercise any of these, use the privacy options in your account settings, or write to contact@helpora.app from your registered email or phone number, describing what you want. We may need to verify your identity first. We respond within the timelines set out on our Grievance Redressal page.
12. Children
Helpora is for users aged 18 and above. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children. If you believe a child has created an account, write to contact@helpora.app and we will remove it.
14. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we update the "Last updated" date at the top. For significant changes (a new category of data, a new purpose, or a new class of recipient), we notify you in the app or by email before the change takes effect, and ask for fresh consent where the law requires it.
